Traces and Remains imagines the city of Beirut dialoguing with its residents. The paintings are a reflection of the residents’ expectations, resolve, and disappointments. In 2007-2009 the City was negotiating a cultural revival from within the existing walls into spaces yet to be built. The pallets of this language are anchored by ochre, the signature color of the City’s older buildings. The resilience of these tones and scale of change can be experienced by the perspective of great elevations.
